A blog following the construction of N97EZ

A Long history

Successful Flight Hours

Long-EZ N97EZ first graced the skies in June of 1985 – coincidentally the same month and year I was born! Unfortunately, in 2010 she suffered an engine failure in the dark Texas night resulting in a forced landing into a freshly plowed field. Both pilot and passenger walked away unharmed, but N97EZ would never fly again. The canard was destroyed, the F22 bulkhead and nose were separated from the fuselage, and the main landing gear was completely torn off. She was later subjected to vandalism and theft while in storage, and was considered by many to be ‘too far gone’. While much of the original airframe may never fly again, my goal is to construct a new airplane using several pieces and parts from the original N97EZ.

N97EZ arrived in Southern California! Wow. What did I do? After an initial inspection, she’s definitely repairable! There are parts of the airplane that are better than I feared, and some parts that are way worse than described. Call it a wash I suppose. The fuselage sides are mostly intact.…
